The rules

TopicRuleStatus
Main image file size and pixel dimensionsUpload limits for the main image (the same limits apply to every image); out-of-range images get an error message: "De bestandsgrootte is minimaal 30 KB en maximaal 10 MB groot." "De afbeelding dient minimaal 500×500 pixels en maximaal 6000×6000 pixels te zijn. Witruimtes in afbeeldingen tellen niet mee in de gestelde minimale en maximale pixels." "Wanneer de afbeeldingen niet voldoen aan bovenstaande minima of maxima, zal een foutmelding worden weergegeven." [English: The file size is at least 30 KB and at most 10 MB. The image must be at least 500×500 pixels and at most 6000×6000 pixels. White space in images does not count toward the stated minimum and maximum pixels. If the images do not meet the above minimums or maximums, an error message will be shown.] sourceRequired
Zoom (1200×1200 px)Zoom only works from 1,200 pixels per side: "De zoomfunctie, waardoor details van een artikel zichtbaar worden, werkt bij afbeeldingen met een minimumgrootte van 1200×1200 pixels." [English: The zoom function, which makes details of an item visible, works on images with a minimum size of 1200×1200 pixels.] sourceRecommended
Main image backgroundListed as a main-image requirement, but bol says it stopped enforcing its image guidelines on 1 July 2025 (except self-promotion): "Zorg ervoor dat de hoofdafbeelding een witte, neutrale achtergrond heeft waarop geen schaduw zichtbaar is." [English: Make sure the main image has a white, neutral background with no visible shadow.] sourceRecommended
Main image: no models, text, logos or watermarksMain-image rule (models and plain text fall under the guidelines bol no longer enforces since 1 July 2025; logos and watermarks are also covered by the enforced self-promotion rule below): "Op de hoofdafbeelding mogen geen modellen, teksten en andere uitspraken zichtbaar zijn, ook zijn logo's, iconen of andere watermerken niet toegestaan." [English: No models, text or other statements may be visible on the main image; logos, icons or other watermarks are also not allowed.] sourceRecommended
Main image: front view, no collage, no lifestyle shot, no illustrationMain-image composition rules (not enforced since 1 July 2025): "Hoofdafbeelding dient de voorzijde van het artikel te zijn. Gebruik voor de hoofdafbeelding geen afbeelding waarin het voor-, zij- en achteraanzicht in 1 afbeelding zijn gecombineerd" "De hoofdafbeelding dient geen sfeerbeeld te zijn" "Gebruik voor de hoofdafbeelding geen illustratie, tekening, logo of icoon om het artikel weer te geven" [English: The main image should be the front of the item. Do not use an image that combines the front, side and rear views in one image. The main image should not be a lifestyle (mood) shot. Do not use an illustration, drawing, logo or icon to represent the item.] sourceRecommended
Number of images and anglesbol sets no maximum on this page; it asks for many images from several angles, at least one straight-on front view filling the frame: "Voeg daarom zoveel mogelijk afbeeldingen toe waarop het artikel vanuit verschillende perspectieven te zien is." "Fotografeer het artikel vanuit verschillende perspectieven en in ieder geval recht van voren en zo beeldvullend mogelijk." "Fotografeer daarnaast relevante details." [English: So add as many images as possible showing the item from different perspectives. Photograph the item from different perspectives, at least straight from the front and as frame-filling as possible. Also photograph relevant details.] sourceRecommended
Show only what the customer receivesApplies to all product photos: "Zet op de afbeelding alleen het artikel zelf en de accessoires die daarbij horen, dus alleen dat wat de klant geleverd krijgt." [English: Show only the item itself and the accessories that belong with it in the image, so only what the customer will receive.] sourceRecommended
Self-promotion: discount labels, watermarks, company names, logos, promo textThe one image rule bol says it still enforces after 1 July 2025: "Wel handhaven we nog steeds op zelfpromotie in afbeeldingen." "Kortingslabels, watermerken, bedrijfsnamen of bedrijfslogo’s, zoals vermeld in de Algemene Voorwaarden." "Promotionele elementen als ‘koop nu’, ‘goedkoop’ of ‘aanpasbaar’ of service gerelateerde informatie als ‘uitgebreide garantie’ of ‘gratis verzending’." [English: We do still enforce self-promotion in images. [Images contain no:] discount labels, watermarks, company names or company logos, as stated in the General Terms; promotional elements such as 'buy now', 'cheap' or 'customizable', or service information such as 'extended warranty' or 'free shipping'.] sourceRequired
"Reviews." [English: Generic or graphic images and illustrations that are not actual product images (except items in the 'Hardware' and 'Vehicles and parts' categories). Comparisons with other items, such as products from other partners or other websites. Reviews.] sourceRequired
Images must truthfully show the productFrom Annex 1 (general sales terms for business sellers) of bol's seller terms, version of 28 August 2025: "Als de Ondernemer gebruik maakt van afbeeldingen, zijn deze een waarheidsgetrouwe weergave van de aangeboden producten, diensten en/of digitale inhoud." [English: If the seller uses images, they are a truthful representation of the products, services and/or digital content offered.] sourceRequired
Copyright: no Google Images, no copying other sellers' photosImage rights rules (images page and bol's property-rights violation policy): "Het is niet toegestaan om afbeeldingen van Google images te gebruiken." "Teksten en afbeeldingen gebruiken voor je productinformatie zonder dat je de toestemming hebt van de originele auteur. Niet toegestaan is bijvoorbeeld het kopiëren van afbeeldingen van andere verkopers op het platform." [English: It is not allowed to use images from Google Images. [Not allowed:] using texts and images for your product information without permission from the original author; for example, copying images of other sellers on the platform is not allowed.] (Second quote: https://partnerplatform.bol.com/nl/idp/schending-eigendomsrecht) sourceRequired
Jewelry and watches: describe plated metal correctly (Waarborgwet)Jewelry-specific rule from bol's fashion assortment policy; it governs the title, description and specs rather than the photo itself: "Artikelen in de categorie ‘Sieraden en Horloges’ vallen onder de Waarborgwet." "Zo mag een zilveren ketting (kernmateriaal zilver) met een 18 karaat plating alleen goudkleurig en niet goud genoemd worden." [English: Items in the 'Jewelry and Watches' category fall under the Dutch Assay Act (Waarborgwet). For example, a silver necklace (core material silver) with 18-karat plating may only be called gold-colored, not gold.] sourceRequired

AI jewelry photos on bol.com: what’s allowed

bol publishes no rule on AI-generated or AI-edited product images for sellers: its image guidelines, content rules and seller terms do not mention AI. What it does publish is an accuracy rule: under the sales terms that bind business sellers, any image used must be a truthful representation ("waarheidsgetrouwe weergave") of the product offered, and bol may remove offer information it judges incorrect or misleading. Its image rules also exclude generic or graphic images and illustrations that are not actual product images, and forbid using images without the rights holder's permission. For a jewelry seller, that means an AI-edited photo should still show the real piece as it ships, with its true metal, stones, color and size.

The jewelry photos that do well on bol.com start as a real photo of the piece you are selling. From there, AI photo editing does the slow work: it swaps a cluttered table for a clean white or styled background, evens out the lighting, brings back the sparkle in the stones and can show the piece worn on a model. What stays the same is the piece itself, so check that the metal color, stone count and size in the finished image match what the buyer will open.

That is how Hues works. You upload your own product photo, and every image it makes is built from that photo, ready for your bol.com listing.
