Gemstone Colour Correction
Gemstone colour correction is the process of adjusting a photograph so that a stone's hue, saturation, and tone accurately match the real gem as seen in person, rather than the shifted color a camera often captures.
Cameras and lighting routinely distort gemstone color — a sapphire can photograph too purple, an emerald too yellow, a diamond too warm. Gemstone colour correction is the careful editing that brings the captured color back in line with the stone's true, in-person appearance.
Why color shifts happen
- Light source: different bulbs and daylight cast warm or cool tints.
- White balance: an incorrect camera setting skews every color.
- Reflections: nearby surfaces bounce unwanted color onto the stone.
- Screen and file differences that alter how color is displayed.
Why accuracy matters
For colored gemstones, hue is value — it is often the single biggest factor in a stone's worth. An image that oversaturates or shifts color misleads the buyer and invites returns or disputes. Faithful color is both an ethical and a commercial necessity.
How Hues AI applies this
Hues AI aims to preserve accurate gemstone color while enhancing clarity and sparkle, so the finished image looks polished yet still represents the stone a customer will actually receive.
